A surprising ESPN report was shared yesterday which claimed that Warriors owner Joe Lacob called Lakers owner Jeanie Buss to discuss a potential LeBron James trade. The Warriors wanted to put LeBron next to Stephen Curry, but the deal quickly died down due to minimal interest from LA or LeBron.

Stephen Curry was asked about the team being linked with LeBron after their loss to the Clippers, with Curry giving an interesting answer.

“I’m never surprised, I’m just surprised when that stuff gets out. I’m assuming every team is making calls. If every fanbase or media group would know about it, it would normalize the conversations that happen in the front office around the trade deadline. When you’re exploring around the league., who’s available, who’s not, gauging interest in that. Obviously, a guy like ‘Bron, you probably call just to see. I don’t know what the depths of the conversation were but it was a nice little surprise for sure.”

Nobody can draw any conclusions about Curry’s reaction as to his knowledge of the situation. It’s an exciting prospect, as seen by the smile Curry had when talking about possibly teaming with LeBron. He’s previously claimed he’s in no rush to play alongside LeBron but said they’d be a lethal duo after the Lakers forward said Curry is his dream teammate.

The NBA trade deadline wasn’t as exciting as many fans expected. The 2023 deadline saw stars such as Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving on the move, but the star acquisitions had been wrapped up earlier in the deadline. But arguably the biggest deadline trade in history could have gone down if the Warriors and Lakers agreed on a LeBron trade.

Both players will be teammates for the West at the 2024 All-Star Game before heading into battle as the Lakers and Warriors face each other in their first game after the All-Star break.

Could LeBron James Want Out Of The Lakers?

There was a report that floated onto social media days before the deadline that LeBron James could be on the move and that a suitor had been identified. Given the ESPN report about the Warriors’ interest in James, it’s possible the initial trade rumor emerged after the talks had taken place.

According to The Athletic, rival executives are reportedly monitoring the situation in LA with the possibility that LeBron wants out in the summer. The Bronny James factor was considered the biggest concern.

“Not only are rival executives increasingly convinced that James might want out, but they’re also focused on the Bronny James factor, which continues to loom large. James has been talking for years now about the dream scenario of playing with his oldest son who, if he chooses, can leave USC this summer and enter the draft. The idea, then, is that any team that wants to up its chances of landing James should make it a priority to go after Bronny first.”

The Lakers will reportedly make a push to acquire Bronny, whether it’s by directly drafting him or trading for his draft rights. But if the Warriors or any other team were to do a similar thing, LeBron would be in a position to enter free agency in the summer and perhaps follow his son to whichever team drafts him.
