The Warriors May Not Put Jordan Poole On The Trade Block

Despite their salary dump being a concern, the Warriors are unlikely to shop Jordan Poole.

Jordan Poole’s future with the Golden State Warriors was one of the topics doing the rounds after the team’s second-round playoff exit against the Los Angeles Lakers.

And despite his dwindling run, Jordan Poole might not find himself in the trade market, according to The Athletic’s Anthony Slater. “Poole is not actively being shopped, there is no edict to cut salary and his side has been given no current indication that his future will be elsewhere,” Slater opined.

Poole’s four-year, $123 million contract extension he signed in October comes into play next season. He will also be making a massive payday with $27.6 million compared to his $3.9 million salary this past year.

Per NBC Sports, also falling under the $24 million bracket next season are Stephen Curry($51.9 million), Klay Thompson ($43.2 million), Poole ($28.7 million), Green ($27.6 million; player option), and Andrew Wiggins ($24.3 million).

Poole didn’t necessarily have a great run this time and had his series of flaws that were routinely exposed over the course of the season. This, coupled with his punch incident with teammate Draymond Green, along with injury absences to their big stars was looked at as reasons behind the Warriors’ average run.

The salary dump will be looked at as one of the main wrinkles for the team. But Slater does add that it won’t be the reason why Poole will be on the trade block. Chances are that Golden State might run it back for one more season with the same squad.

Jordan Poole Explained His Postseason Struggles

It was a forgettable playoff run for both the Warriors and Poole, who averaged just 10.3 PPG, 2.2 RPG, and 3.5 APG while shooting 34.1% from the field and 25.4% from downtown.

“Probably just a little bit of a role change,” Poole said when talking about his playoff struggles. “Last year, I could come in, score, be aggressive with the team that we had around being more of a facilitator. Trying to get guys off the ball. Get them easy shots. Throughout the course of the playoffs, we had two really good defensive teams that we played. Just trying to find ways to facilitate, get inside.”

For now, it appears that Poole will stay put in the Bay area, but this is the NBA, and trades are sometimes facilitated in the most bizarre of ways. And with that, Poole’s future with the Warriors is still undecided unless they confirm otherwise.
