Tracy McGrady was perhaps one of the most exciting players to watch in the league back in the 2000s. An amazingly talented scorer, T-Mac was a problem for many NBA defenders back in the day.

Playing for teams like Orlando Magic and the Houston Rockets, McGrady was a superstar in his prime. Dropping 30 bombs at will, it was unsurprising to see the shooting guard win two scoring titles in the NBA. If not for his injuries, T-Mac might have had even more accolades.

Despite his injury concerns, McGrady played 15 seasons in the league. Having made his debut back in 1997, the 6’8″ shooting guard had faced off against a number of players. Back in an appearance at the Jump, the shooting guard, though, opened up about why he wanted to challenge former Sacramento Kings guard Jason Williams the most in the league. (0:28 onwards)

“It’s not too many guys that I played against when we switch a pick and roll and I want to guard. This dude right here would do something so creative to embarrass you out there like I didn’t like to guard him in-game.”

“When you do moves, I consider Gary Payton one of the probably the greatest point guard defender ever in the history of NBA and when you make him try to trip to stop you, you know you for real.”

While Williams wasn’t a superstar in the NBA, he was perhaps the flashiest of them all. Be it his incredible handles, elbow passes to his teammates in a fast-break, or finding the most creative ways to assist his team, ‘White Chocolate’ was a problem and was one of the most exciting guards back in the day.

Although his polarizing game style might have many coaches scratching their heads, Williams remained a solid role player and ultimately won a championship with the Miami Heat. Given how skilled of a player Williams was, it is unsurprising to see why McGrady wanted to challenge the guard. Who would you pick if the two players went one-on-one, though?
