Ja Morant has been the most in-demand NBA player of the last month, with everyone from across the sports and entertainment world discussing him for his recent controversies.

The resident veteran of the NBA, Udonis Haslem, has now commented on the situation. However, it seems Haslem just wants to show Morant how to live his life while understanding what aspects to hide to keep his NBA career successful.

“I would’ve loved to have a relationship, I speak to his father too… I understand where you come from. I understand your surroundings, I understand the pressure you might feel to keep it real. But keeping it real can go wrong though, so I will show you how to move out here and still enjoy your life and maintain your independence of who you are and what you are, but the right way. There is a right way. I haven’t changed, I have altered things and changed my life, shifted it a little bit but I didn’t change. I am very happy with where I am today, so you can still live that life. You can’t be street now, you can be hood, but can’t be street. There’s a difference.”

Ja Morant has looked good since his return but the advice of Udonis Haslem may have an impact on the young star. Dillon Brooks openly referred to Haslem as a true veteran during the Morant controversy, dismissing the idea of players like Carmelo Anthony and Dwight Howard being veterans to the young group in Memphis. If Haslem wasn’t retiring, he may have been a good voice to have in the Grizzlies’ locker room.

Udonis Haslem Calls It Quits After 20 Years As The Ultimate Glue Guy

Haslem will be stepping away from his 20-year-long NBA career this season. He is the oldest active player in the league at 42 years old and went undrafted in the 2002 NBA Draft before signing with the Miami Heat in 2003. He has been with the team ever since, tying Kobe Bryant for the second-most seasons spent with the same team, behind Dirk Nowitzki. Haslem is the sixth-oldest player of all-time to have played in an NBA game at age 42.

Udonis has played just 64 games in the last 7 seasons, not being able to provide value on the court for over half a decade now. His value comes on the bench, as he has won 3 titles with the franchise while making multiple sacrifices for the good of the team. Pat Riley has rewarded Haslem with one of the longest careers in the league as a result, which will now likely lead to his jersey being retired for the NBA franchise.
