Giannis Antetokounmpo’s family has made a major life change, one that’s sparking fresh speculation about the Milwaukee Bucks star’s future. According to To Vima, Giannis’ wife, Mariah Riddlesprigger, and their four young children have permanently relocated to Athens, Greece, moving into a newly built luxury complex in the upscale neighborhood of Paleo Psychiko, often dubbed “diplomatic row.”
The futuristic apartment complex reportedly includes separate penthouses for each of Giannis’ brothers: Thanasis, Kostas, and Alex, as well as a residence for his widowed mother, Veronica. Sources close to the family told the publication that the move followed “months of family discussions,” with Mariah ultimately choosing Athens over Milwaukee as their long-term base.
The couple’s two eldest sons, five-year-old Liam Charles and four-year-old Maverick Shai, have already enrolled in one of the city’s most prestigious international schools. The decision reflects the Antetokounmpos’ growing desire to reestablish their roots in Greece, the country that shaped Giannis’ identity and continues to hold deep sentimental value for the entire family.
While Giannis remains in Milwaukee preparing for the 2025–26 NBA season, this development inevitably raises eyebrows given the ongoing uncertainty about his future with the Bucks.
Multiple reports, including from Shams Charania, have revealed that the Bucks and New York Knicks held exploratory trade talks over the summer, a stunning revelation that added new tension to Giannis’ relationship with the franchise.
According to Charania, the Knicks were the only team Giannis was open to joining outside of Milwaukee. The sides reportedly spoke for several weeks, though a deal never gained traction. The Bucks maintained they had no interest in trading their superstar, but insiders suggested Milwaukee’s response might have been different if New York had offered a more aggressive package.
For now, Giannis remains committed to the Bucks, but many around the league believe the coming season will determine everything. His next contract decision looms large: on October 1, 2026, he’ll become eligible for a four-year, $275 million extension. If the Bucks stumble early or fail to contend, the pressure to either commit long-term or seek a trade will reach its peak.
With his family now fully based in Greece, the optics are difficult to ignore. Some see it as a sign that Giannis is preparing for life beyond Milwaukee and possibly beyond the NBA. Others argue that it’s simply a lifestyle decision, allowing his kids to grow up closer to his cultural roots while he continues his career abroad.
Giannis spent much of the summer representing Greece in EuroBasket 2025, helping his national team capture the bronze medal, a proud moment that reaffirmed his connection to his homeland. Afterward, he and Mariah took their children on vacation to the Costa Navarino resort in southwest Greece before she and the kids settled into their new home.
For now, the plan is for Mariah and the children to return to Milwaukee during the Christmas and New Year holidays.
But as Giannis Antetokounmpo embarks on a make-or-break season with the Bucks, the sight of his family putting down permanent roots in Athens will only fuel questions about whether “The Greek Freak” is quietly setting the stage for his next big move and possibly, the end of his era in Milwaukee.
