Cam Johnson’s father was in for a pleasant surprise, and his face lit up with joy when the Brooklyn Nets star gifted him with a sweet-looking Tissot as a token of gratitude for his support and advice.
The Nets forward reflected on his NBA journey and how his father, Gilbert, was instrumental in his journey. “My dad…he cares for me, he provided for me, he is my biggest fan, and at the same time, he’s my biggest critic,” Johnson said in a video. (Via Bleacher Report.
“You made us a priority, you made the time, you coached us,” he told his dad, who was sitting next to him in the clip. Everybody has kind of someone different to help them, and they can point to somebody that helped them along, help them get to whatever point that they got to. Having it in your father is just so special.”
Johnson was one of the players part of the Kevin Durant blockbuster trade that saw the latter traded to the Phoenix Suns for Mikal Bridges, Jae Crowder (now with the Milwaukee Bucks), four unprotected first-round picks, and a 2028 first-round pick swap.
Since his arrival in Brooklyn, Johnson has averaged 16.5 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 2.1 assists in 24 games, making it his best-ever run in the league.
Cam Johnson And The Brooklyn Nets Are Gunning For A Playoff Spot
Placed sixth in the East with a 44-36 record, Cam Johnson and the Brooklyn Nets are gunning for a playoff spot with two games remaining in their regular season.
It helped that they registered a dominant 123-108 win against the Detroit Pistons and have a shot at extending their winning run when they take on the Orlando Magic next. Their final game poses a stern test when they lock horns with the Philadelphia 76ers.
The Nets went into a rebuild in the middle of the season when they lost Durant and Kyrie Irving, who is now part of the Dallas Mavericks. But Johnson’s words sparked hope for Nets fans.
“Obviously, combining a couple of players, there are some things we have to iron out,” Johnson said earlier to the New York Post. “But I think the core of what we have, and what we’re trying to do, I think it’s pretty special. We’ve got guys that compete, guys that play hard, and you’re gonna start seeing us build this thing together.”
The Nets are one of those dynamic young teams in the NBA this season, and with better cohesion, they may be one of the surprise packages next season. Only time will tell if they can make a deep playoff run this time.
