The Boston Celtics are riding high after a dominant win over the Milwaukee Bucks saw them move back within 2 games of the No. 1 seed in the East.

The 140-99 win ended up becoming feisty after Blake Griffin was headbutted by Thanasis Antetokounmpo, leading Jaylen Brown to offer his mask to Griffin for protection.

Brown has been wearing a mask since suffering a facial fracture before the All-Star break. Griffin has been a rotational player on the bench of the Celtics and was headbutted by Thanasis after Griffin roughly defended him on a possession. The game was a blowout by then, so the altercation ended up being meaningless.

This win was a statement win by the Celtics who have had a tough couple of months. There have been concerns over their playoff viability especially compared to the Bucks, but they proved that they can handle whatever challenges come their way. After all, they don’t have a choice.

Jaylen Brown Puts His Future In Question

There is going to be an urgency for the Celtics to start pushing towards titles now that they haven’t shown in the past. The team has been an East contender for over 5 years but only last year did they break through and make the Finals. There have been plenty of losses in the Eastern Conference Finals and earlier already, but the team was young enough for people to put hopes in the future.

Jaylen Brown’s recent comments that have made people think he may be planning for a future away from Boston have expedited that timeline massively. If the Celtics end up losing Brown for nothing, it’ll be a calamitous hit to the franchise and their current title hopes. Winning it this season may even guarantee Brown staying to maximize the championships he can win.

The clock is ticking in Boston, both for the team and Jaylen Brown. There’s no more time to make incremental progress, with a title being the only thing of consequence for the franchise. They want to secure that 18th title as soon as possible.
