Fadeaway World

It wasn’t too long ago when Joel Embiid was viewed as the savior of the Philadelphia 76ers. After a stellar rookie season that was cut short due to injury, many people expected the Sixers to be the next dynasty in the league as going into the 2017 NBA draft, the Sixers were able to trade up and acquire the number one overall pick and had Ben Simmons coming back from a season-ending injury a year prior.

The trio of Fultz, Simmons, and Embiid was expected to do big things together but things went south quickly due to injury.

Fultz would be traded after only playing a handful of games and though the duo of Embiid and Simmons was able to find instant success, they have yet to find the type of success that many people thought they would have. This past offseason, the Sixers made some interesting decisions in adding Al Horford, re-signing Tobias Harris, and acquiring Josh Richardson via trade. The fit of this current Sixers team is very suspect, and they have been nothing short of disappointing this season.

With frustrations building up, Joel took to Instagram to voice them and his recent post and comments have angered a lot of fans. If they fall short once again, the Sixers could look to split up the pairing of Simmons and Embiid. If this is the case, teams should be ready to submit their best offers to the Sixers in hopes of landing a star in Joel Embiid. In this article, we will look at five teams that should try and make an attempt to acquire Joel Embiid.

Boston Celtics

After losing Al Horford this past offseason, the Celtics have been scrambling to find a replacement. Though they have been playing just fine without him, Horford’s presence will be missed in the playoffs if they have to face the likes of Giannis Antetokounmpo or Pascal Siakam. To sure up that center position for the foreseeable future, they should look to acquire one of the NBA’s best big men.

A potential trade for Joel Embiid would see the Celtics part ways with either Jaylen Brown or Jayson Tatum as well as Marcus Smart, another cap filler, and multiple first-round picks.

This trade would give the Celtics a big man who is dominant on both sides of the floor and gives the Sixers an All-Star forward to pair alongside Ben Simmons, a defender in Smart, and multiple picks that could be used in another trade.

Golden State Warriors

The Warriors ran the league for nearly half a decade and their reign of terror looks to be all but over. Currently, in an injury-riddled season, they have seemingly put all focus on the 2020-21 season with recent moves that they have made. The pairing of Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson would be able to get the Warriors to the playoffs but adding Embiid would take that team to bigger and better heights.

A potential trade would see the Warriors trading away Andrew Wiggins, as well as Draymond Green, a young player such as Eric Paschall, their 2020 first-round pick and possibly more. For this trade to work financially, the Sixers would have to trade Embiid as well as another cap filler such as Al Horford.

This may seem like a lot but, if Embiid demands a trade, getting back a young score-first player in Wiggins, a defensive guru in Draymond, a rookie with some potential is Paschall and what will probably be a top-5 pick in this upcoming draft is a nice return for Embiid.

From the Warriors side, Embiid gives the Warriors a player who can create his own shot as well as provide elite defense at the center position. A trio of Curry-Thompson-Embiid could wreak havoc in this league and strike fear into opposing teams.

Miami Heat

Pat Riley has made it clear that he wants to create another super team in Miami and adding Joel Embiid would do so. A potential trade would probably see the Heat part ways with two of out their three young assets in Tyler Herro, Kendrick Nunn, and Bam Adebayo as well as a cap filler.

This trade allows the Heat to acquire a young star in Joel Embiid and if they play their cards right, they could have enough money left over to get another star in the 2021 offseason or use the remaining cap to fill out their roster with quality role players.

For the Sixers, adding a young all-star and a good young player can keep them competitive for many years to come.

Atlanta Hawks

The Hawks were able to draft Trae Young last year, and he is already looking like an NBA superstar. Establishing himself as one of the best point guards in the league in just his 2nd season, now is the time for the Hawks to go out there and make a move for a big-name player. A potential Joel Embiid trade would have the Hawks parting ways with Clint Capela, two of their three young assets in John Collins, De’Andre Hunter, and Cam Reddish, and their 2020 first-round pick that is expected to be in the top 7.

A duo of Trae Young and Joel Embiid would wreak havoc in the league for many years to come and with the Hawks having the luxury of Young only being on his rookie deal, they would have the opportunity of adding another star in free agency during the 2021 offseason.

Looking at the Sixers side, this trade gets them a 20-10 guy in John Collins, another young player oozing with potential in either De’Andre Hunter or Cam Reddish, and a top-7 pick that could be used to select an impactful player.

Brooklyn Nets

The Nets had an offseason to remember as they were able to land star Kyrie Irving and superstar Kevin Durant. We will have to until next season to see this duo play together and with Kyrie’s comments about being “one or two pieces away”, the Nets could look to make a splash move. A potential trade would be Joel Embiid in exchange for Spencer Dinwiddie, Caris LeVert, Jarrett Allen, and possibly more.

The Nets with a trio of Kyrie-KD-Embiid drastically improves their chances of winning a championship and Embiid would alleviate the offensive pressure from Kyrie and KD.

Adding Dinwiddie, LeVert, and Allen gives the Sixers three great players who all know their roles and can keep the Sixers competitive.
