Stephen A. Smith is often seen making big claims about NBA-related topics, especially now that the NBA playoffs are getting more interesting.

After claiming Kawhi Leonard should retire following another injury, he’s now giving his opinion on the Golden State Warriors vs. Los Angeles Lakers series. Smith believes that if Stephen Curry takes out the Lakers and goes to win the title this year, he should replace LeBron James on Mt. Rushmore.

“If Steph Curry beats LeBron in this series and, dare I say, wins his fifth NBA championship, we might have to remove LeBron James off of Mount Rushmore and put Steph Curry on it. That’s right, I said it!” Smith boldly stated.

“My Mount Rushmore is Jordan, LeBron, Kareem, and Bill Russell… I believe that LeBron James is the second-best player in the history of basketball… I’m looking at Steph, you’re 3-1 against him [LeBron James] in the NBA Finals… The greatness of Steph Curry, the greatest shooter on planet Earth, a two-time MVP, a four-time champion, maybe five times… Three of those titles, he beat LeBron… I’m saying it’s a discussion if he beats LeBron and he wins a fifth ‘chip, it’s a discussion that somebody can’t just dismiss.”

This is bold from Smith but nothing crazy considering other things he’s said over the years. The controversial analyst can easily make these claims and create big discussions around the league, but it seems like this one will have to wait until the end of the season.

Stephen A. had already stated that Stephen Curry was getting closer to surpassing Magic Johnson as the greatest point guard of all time, and another win this season will make him surpass LeBron while tying Magic and Kobe Bryant with five rings.

Stephen Curry And LeBron James Are This Generation’s GOATs

The rivalry between Curry and James has been memorable. Things have changed since 2018, as they no longer have the strongest teams in each NBA conference. The Warriors and Lakers didn’t even finish the regular season as top-5 teams and now are fighting to get a spot in the Western Conference Finals.

Many people think that this is one of, if not the last matchup we’ll see of them in the postseason. Whoever gets the win, will be considered the winner of this rivalry, and for Smith, the winner will get the spot on Mt. Rushmore.
