Dillon Brooks will be a free agent this summer and his future with the Memphis Grizzlies is very much up in the air.
For his part, Brooks is open to a return, but he says he isn’t going to change his attitude if he does come back.
“Dillon Brooks did not rule out coming back. But he said he’s not going to change his approach to talking. And he was critical of his role: ‘I felt like, with all this criticism, I could have gave a lot more. And I wasn’t given enough.'”

Ja Morant had stated that the Grizzlies will do less trash-talking from now, something he felt would be good for the team, but Brooks doesn’t seem interested in changing. He is going to do things his way, whether others like it or not.
While Brooks is open to an extension, the Grizzlies might not be, as a report indicated there is a growing doubt leaguewide about their appetite to re-sign him. It should hardly be a surprise, as teams will tolerate a player’s antics as long as they deliver on the court and he certainly did not against the Los Angeles Lakers.
Brooks averaged just 10.5 PPG, 3.0 RPG, and 1.8 APG in their first-round series while shooting 31.2% from the field. His controversial comments on LeBron James after Game 2 didn’t help matters either and despite it backfiring, Brooks says he doesn’t regret it. His antics also ensured he drew the ire of Lakers fans as they trolled him while he was walking to the team hotel after the series ended.
Where Is The Best Destination For Dillon Brooks?
If the Grizzlies do decide against retaining Brooks, then he would have a few suitors. Even though he struggled so much against the Lakers, he can be a solid contributor for teams who would want a defensive-minded player. The Houston Rockets immediately come to mind as a young team that desperately needs a defensive-minded player like him and Nick Wright also believes that is the best destination.
The likes of the San Antonio Spurs, Utah Jazz, and Orlando Magic are all also projected to have more than enough cap space to sign Brooks, who could command around $18-20 million annually. That seems to be the going rate for a defensive specialist like him, with Lu Dort and Dorian Finney-Smith being on similar deals.
