The NBA is ever-changing, so it’s no surprise that the media machinery that surrounds it is also constantly changing as well. ESPN is a major player in the game, and they have recently made some major changes.

After a long career in the NBA, Jalen Rose had become a popular analyst with ESPN, even getting his own show called ‘Jalen and Jacoby.’ But as per the latest reports, layoffs within the company have resulted in Rose being let go.

“ESPN has let go of NBA Countdown’s Jalen Rose,” the New York Post reported

This isn’t a surprise, the network has let go of quite a few of the analysts on their roster, Jeff Van Gundy being among them. Rose retired from the NBA in 2007, playing most notably for the Indiana Pacers, and has worked in broadcasting in some capacity or the other since then.

His involvement with ESPN began in 2007 itself, and he has been a part of their top broadcast for a decade. The former player has impressed with his takes and his analysis in that time, but it’s not been enough to keep him involved at the network following the recent round of layoffs.

Stephen A. Smith Has Courted Shannon Sharpe To Join ESPN

While there are many personalities living the network, that also means there are opportunities to be had for others. One of the major players in this game that just left his old job is Shannon Sharpe, and Stephen A. Smith has already tried courting him to join the company and First Take

“If Shannon Sharpe needs me, I’m happy to be here for him,” Smith said. “If that included him wanting to come on ‘First Take,’ the bosses at ESPN know that is something I would support. Not every day, but one of those days every week.

“If Shannon Sharpe wanted to join that roster [of analysts], there’s no resistance from Stephen. A… I respect the hell out of him. There’s no doubt the man knows his football!”

As important as the NBA itself is to the fans, the consumption doesn’t stop at the basketball. Analysis and media work is a huge part of the NBA experience and it would seem that the way it looks is about to change drastically ahead of next season.
