Brandon Miller was a controversial No. 2 pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, with many believing Scoot Henderson should go ahead of the forward out of Alabama. That doesn’t change the fact that Miller is incredibly talented and could become part of a dominant duo alongside LaMelo Ball.
His first Summer League game wasn’t a good reflection of his abilities, as Miller struggled in a Hornets loss. He reacted to the loss by expressing his disappointment.
“It was a little frustrating because I don’t like to lose. It was really fun out there seeing a different environment from the college experience. Fun. Just really out there having fun with my team.”
Miller scored 18 points with five rebounds and three assists on 45.5% shooting. The Hornets were blown out 98-77 by the Spurs without Victor Wembanyama, as Miller underwhelmed by picking up seven fouls and six turnovers.

Miller will get a chance to make it right when the Hornets and Spurs face off in the Las Vegas Summer League on Friday, a game where Victor Wembanyama is expected to debut.
Brandon Miller Looking To Make Instant Impact
Even the best players have bad games. Miller was unfortunate for his bad game to come in his Summer League debut, but he showed flashes of incredible ability in his 18-point outing. He did struggle with the considerable pace of the NBA game and gave inklings that his college ball-handling ability may not immediately translate to the NBA.
The Hornets have been toward the bottom of the NBA for almost two decades now. A young duo like LaMelo and Miller should indicate a changing of the times. Miles Bridges will be returning to the squad as well, with a solid trio of complementary stars hoping to make the playoffs.
The Hornets haven’t made any major win-now moves in free agency, looking to bring back most of their young core next season. Outside of the restricted free agency of PJ Washington, the Hornets look to be building slowly until they know what they have. Michael Jordan sold the franchise before the draft, so major changes could be afoot throughout the season.
