The Los Angeles Lakers will play in arguably the most important game of their season so far on Wednesday night against the Los Angeles Clippers.

Unfortunately, there are question marks surrounding the availability of LeBron James, Anthony Davis, and D’Angelo Russell for the game. Head coach Darvin Ham was asked about their status after the win over the Utah Jazz, and he had an interesting response.

“We have our short-term business that we need to take care of and our long-term business that we need to take care of,” Ham said, via Dave McMenamin from ESPN. “We prioritize a player’s health, first and foremost. Regardless of what the stakes are or the implications of with a win or a loss or all of that. We need our players to know that we care about their health, first and foremost.”

It would appear the Lakers won’t risk potential long-term problems for short-term gain. Russell missed the win over the Jazz due to left foot soreness and perhaps might still play here. As for LeBron and AD, they both played heavy minutes against the Jazz as the game went to overtime.

They were on the court for a lot longer than the Lakers would have liked, and having to play the very next night after that, could be risky. Davis himself didn’t confirm if he’d feature, as he hasn’t played back-to-backs in forever and played 42:05 minutes against the Jazz. He said he’d have a conversation about his status with the staff on Wednesday.

Tyronn Lue Says This Is The Most Meaningful Lakers-Clippers Game He Will Coach In

An intriguing aspect of this Lakers-Clippers matchup is that the Clippers have absolutely crushed the Lakers in recent meetings. Since Tyronn Lue became their head coach, they have won 10 straight games against the Lakers, which includes all three games this season.

Lue, though, feels this is the most meaningful game between the sides since he became the Clippers’ head coach. He added that this one would be different from the rest, as the Lakers are playing at a high level, having won four in a row. This clash would also, in all likelihood, determine which of these two teams finish in the top six in the Western Conference. They both have a 41-38 record, and the winner of this clash will climb to fifth with two games remaining in the season for each of them.
