  • The doctors said Bronny’s cardiac arrest was caused by a congenital heart defect
  • Bronny is expected to make a full recovery after his scary cardiac arrest on July 24
  • All eyes will now be on Bronny James’ future

The reason behind Bronny James’ scary cardiac arrest last month is now out in the open, and according to Dr. Brian Sutterer, the cause behind it comes as great news.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Sutterer shared his views on Bronny’s diagnosis and the optimism that he would make a full recovery.

“Back when I first covered this story, I talked about how one of the most challenging and complicated aspects of these sudden cardiac arrests in athletes is trying to find the cause because there are plenty of times when doctors cannot identify what led to the cardiac arrest.”

“We can divide these into essentially into acquired and congenital, and in this case, Bronny’s is congenital, which means this is something he’s had from his birth. This is not something he’s acquired, this is not something that’s related to a shot.

Sutterer then went on to explain how the human heart functions, adding that congenital heart defects involve a structural abnormality in the heart that alters the pathway of the blood flow.

“A lot of these congenital heart defects are significant enough that they are discovered early on in childhood, especially someone who’s doing athletics because often people have a lot of symptoms of shortness of breath, fatigue, they might have blue fingers and toes, so a lot of the big bad ones get discovered early on and easily treated.”

Quite essentially, Sutterer suggests that assessing why Bronny had a cardiac arrest now makes it all the more possible to treat him.

“They feel comfortable that he’s going to make a quick return to basketball. If this was some big, major structural abnormality, you know… think of something that Shareef O’Neal went through, where he had a big open heart surgery, they wouldn’t have said  that they expect him to return to basketball in the very near future.”

There was optimism by the doctors that the 18-year-old could make a speedy return to court, and that to Sutterer was great news. Earlier, he explained what happened to Bronny after the arrest.

Bronny’s basketball activities are currently at a halt as he continues to recover from the scary cardiac arrest he suffered on July 24 this year. The family recently put out a statement with the doctors labeling the cause as a congenital heart defect.

The Focus Will Now Shift To Bronny’s Future

Now that there is good news that things are returning to normal for Bronny, the focus will shift to his future with fans wondering where he will land up in 2024.

With news of Bronny and LeBron James playing together continuing to do the rounds, all eyes will be on how contending teams could land both a superstar dad and a potential oozing phenom. And should there be a scenario where he plays for a different team with his dad not on it, he still has the game to show.

A clean bill of health should return things to normal for Bronny and his family, but there’s still a lot of uncertainty clouding the future. Mostly, fans are wondering which team Bronny will be playing for when it’s time to make his debut.

At this point, it’s still far too early to say where Bronny will be playing when he forays into the NBA. But it’s evident now that he will ramp up on recovery and get back on track to the successful journey that he’s destined for.
