When LeBron James suffered a foot injury in the game against the Dallas Mavericks, many feared the worst.

LeBron managed to play through it, but it was then reported on Monday night that he might be out for an extended period of time. As panic spread, renowned sports injury analyst Evan Jeffries gave his take on what injury James could have suffered.

Jeffries’ assessment is that it could be a Lisfranc injury or a midfoot sprain, or a Plantar fascia tear, with the timeline for a potential return depending on the severity.

Jeffries also spoke more in detail about James’ situation, based on LeBron saying at the time that he heard his ankle “pop.”

“Typically when you see those types of injuries, and you hear, ‘I feel a pop,’ you’re thinking that there’s gotta be some sort of tear,” Jeffries told Lakers Daily. “That’s why immediately I’m thinking either plantar fascia tear, and then you figure midfoot. Lisfranc is considered midfoot, but it’s obviously (the) most severe. Those are the concerning areas for me.”

Jeffries went on to say that if it is a Plantar fascia tear, then James can play through it, but if it is a midfoot issue, then he doesn’t expect to see LeBron back on the court for almost a month. It is an absolute disaster for the Lakers, with the only consolation being that this iteration of the team might be capable of staying afloat in his absence.

It Is Time For Anthony Davis To Step Up And Deliver

Ever since Anthony Davis returned from a foot injury of his own, he has struggled with consistency. His rebounding and defense have been great, but the offense seems to come and go. With LeBron now absent, Davis will need to go on the kind of run he was on toward the end of last year when he looked like an MVP candidate.

He has got quite a big challenge right away, with the Lakers taking on the 2nd-seeded Memphis Grizzlies next. Davis will be up against a candidate for DPOY in Jaren Jackson Jr., and a dominant performance here will send a message to the rest of the league that he means business.
