The NBA has no shortage of talent and while the season may be unable to continue, we can still recognize what some of these guys have done on the court this year.
Specifically, some of the league’s youngest stars (21-year-olds) have been on an absolute tear leading their teams and dominating their opponents on a nightly basis. And, for the first time in NBA History, four of them are averaging over 21 points: Trae Young Luke Doncic, Jayson Tatum, and Zion Williamson.
For the Hawks, Trae is averaging 29.6 points, 9.3 assists, and 4.3 rebounds on 43.7 % shooting. At 21-years-old, he has cemented himself as one of the league’s top shooters and has become the de-facto face of his franchise.
In just his second season, Luka Doncic was an early contender for the NBA’s MVP. He’s averaging 28.7 points, 9.3 rebounds, and 8.7 assists. He has broken countless records, has gained a worldwide following, and has almost single-handedly made the Mavericks a Western Conference elite.
Jayson Tatum made a huge leap this season, going from a 15.7 point scoring average to 23.6 on pretty much the same efficiency. He is the Celtics’ leader, best player, and future with a multitude of scoring capabilities at his disposal. He was elected to his first-ever All-Star team this past February.
After suffering an injury before the start of the season, Zion Williamson missed most of the 2019-20 campaign working his way back to health. But once he finally did return, it was clear he was a star from the jump. In 19 games, he has averaged 23.6 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 0.5 blocks per game.
Looking at all four young studs, it’s clear the NBA has a bright future. Never before in all of league history have we seen so many young stars dominate at once. It’s truly unprecedented and really makes you wonder who else might be ready for a breakout season.
