This season has not been kind to the Dallas Mavericks. After a massively disappointing start to the season, the Mavs made a huge trade for Kyrie Irving that has failed to materialize into wins. The worst part is, Luka Doncic could end up all alone again if Kyrie leaves as a free agent this summer.

Long story short it is not a good time for the Mavs right now, and the speed of their downfall has emboldened some fans to take their hate to Luka directly and that’s exactly what they did with the ‘you are fat’ chants while he was at the line.

The fans may have taken it a step too far with that one, especially since the Hawks aren’t too far off from where the Mavericks have been all season long. Still, the moment says a lot about how bad things have gotten for Luka and his crew.

Is It Time For The Mavericks To Panic?

As the 11th seed in the West, this is not the way any Mavs player saw the season going, especially Kyrie who admitted very openly that the whole thing has been a “clusterf**k.”

“Just where we are in the season and where other teams are positioned already, it kind of looks like a little bit of a clusterf**k to be honest with you,” said Irving. “We’re 37-40 and we’re trying to get to the play-in game. It’s not the expectations I don’t think any of us had in the locker room and me getting traded midseason… I just have to be at peace with where I am and which I am and trust the guys that I’m going to be in the war room with every day.”

As for Luka, his mood has been noticeably somber since the struggles began, and he has been honest about how shocking the team’s play has been lately.

“Way different,” Doncic said. “I thought we would be up there. But we obviously aren’t, so it’s way different than I thought.”

The Mavs managed to make a comeback against the Hawks this weekend, so they aren’t completely out of the picture yet. But until Dallas shows some fight on the defensive end, they aren’t going to get very far at all.
