When healthy, Anthony Davis is one of the most dominant big players in the NBA. He has a versatile offensive skill set and is an elite multi-positional defender that also provides rim protection. Prior to his foot injury, Anthony Davis was averaging 27.4 PPG, 12.1 RPG, and 2.6 APG for the Los Angeles Lakers.

Anthony Davis was notably included in the NBA 75 list, and many people believe that he should be a first-ballot Hall of Fame player in the future. However, former coach Jeff Van Gundy believes that may not end up being the case due to Anthony Davis’ lack of durability.

“Are you sure right now if he ended today, he’d be a Hall of Famer?”

“I’m not sure because of the injuries. He’s just…been unavailable so often. I think it’s hard to say that.”

There is no doubt that this is a hot take. Anthony Davis definitely has the accolades to get into the Hall of Fame, and we’ve seen worse players manage to make it in the past. There is no player in the NBA 75 that isn’t already in the Hall of Fame or won’t make it, and the same applies to Anthony Davis.

Anthony Davis Is Progressing With His Injury

There is no doubt that the Los Angeles Lakers have struggled without Anthony Davis on both ends of the floor. However, he is definitely on track to come back at some point this season. Darvin Ham has previously provided a positive update on the big man, claiming that he is “trending in the right direction”.

Darvin Ham, two weeks after Anthony Davis suffered the stress injury in his right foot, says “the biggest thing is, his pain has just about dissipated” and says Davis is trending in the right direction when it comes to approaching a ramp up to return to the court.

Hopefully, the Los Angeles Lakers get Anthony Davis back sooner rather than later. He is crucial to the team’s hopes of making the playoffs this season. Obviously, the priority should be on Anthony Davis’ health, however, as the team likely won’t want to risk further injury if he comes back too soon.

The Los Angeles Lakers have been an overall poor team this year, but they still have a chance of getting to the postseason through the play-in tournament. With Anthony Davis, that is entirely possible, and we’ll see what happens in the future.
