Carmelo Anthony announced his retirement on Monday to drop the curtain on an amazing 19-year career in the NBA.

Fans were saddened to see Melo officially calling it quits while Kevin Durant paid tribute to Melo in hilarious fashion by poking some fun at him. LeBron James also honored his former teammate with a beautiful message and with Melo now retiring, James is now the last man standing from their 2003 Draft Class.

That 2003 Draft remains one of the greatest in NBA history, with LeBron, Melo, Dwyane Wade, and Chris Bosh being picked in the top five. They all had great careers and it is incredible that LeBron is still playing at a high level all these years later. While Melo retired this year, Wade called it quits back in 2019, while Bosh last played in the league in 2016 when he was diagnosed with a blood clot issue. He tried to make a comeback but his health forced him to officially retire in 2019.

LeBron James Hinted He Might Retire After Losing To The Nuggets

For how much longer LeBron will continue to play, we do not know. He showed in Game 4 against the Denver Nuggets that he is still very capable of putting on a show, finishing with 40 points, 10 rebounds, 9 assists, and 2 steals. After losing that game and getting swept though, he hinted that he might retire, stating that moving forward, he had a lot to think about when it comes to basketball.

It is highly unlikely that he does walk away but that day isn’t too far into the future at this point. Injuries certainly took their toll on LeBron this season and they are coming with greater regularity now. He still probably has a couple of seasons left in him but not much more than that, so we should appreciate him while he’s still around.
