Kawhi Leonard is one of the most accomplished superstars in the game today, and he is the current face of the Los Angeles Clippers. He is definitely a top-tier player when it comes to the postseason. Currently, Kawhi Leonard is averaging 17.3 PPG, 6.1 RPG, and 3.9 APG.
After he won the 2019 championship with the Toronto Raptors, there was a lot of speculation about where Kawhi Leonard would go in free agency. He ended up on the Los Angeles Clippers, but Magic Johnson recently claimed that he could have convinced Leonard to join the Los Angeles Lakers.

I knew what he (LeBron James) wanted, but No. 2, I knew Los Angeles he could live, and live free… live a life he wanted to live that he couldn’t live in Cleveland or Miami… I told him, I’m going to build a team that will win a championship, no question about it… He bought into it.
I said “These are the moves I’m going to make after I sign you”. At that time I thought it was going to be Kawhi, cause he was the next free agent the next year. Nobody knew Anthony Davis was going to be available next year.
I would have had Kawhi. When I come into close a deal, it’s done. I do my homework and my research.
Obviously, Magic Johnson quit his position with the Los Angeles Lakers prior to that year’s free agency, so he never got a chance to meet with Kawhi Leonard. Still, it is fun to think about what could have been. It is unclear if LeBron James and Kawhi Leonard would have won a championship together, but they certainly would have had a good chance.
Kobe Bryant Once Explained Why Kawhi Leonard Joined The Clippers Over The Los Angeles Lakers
Most free agents would likely prefer to join the Los Angeles Lakers over the Los Angeles Clippers, but it is clear that Kawhi Leonard thought otherwise. Kobe Bryant once explained why Kawhi Leonard made that decision, stating that Leonard “wanted the challenge” of making the Clippers a good team with Paul George.
“Well, I think he wanted the challenge of trying to turn the Clippers around,” Bryant told ESPN. “And I think he saw a great opportunity if Paul George wanted to participate and that challenge with him. Both kids are from LA.”
The Los Angeles Clippers have not won the championship under Kawhi Leonard’s tenure, but perhaps that could change this season. They have a talented and deep squad and could make a deep playoff run, and even get out of the Western Conference.
Hopefully, we see Kawhi Leonard play at a high level in the playoffs. He has been through a lot from an injury standpoint, but he can still be a top-tier player that can lead a team to the championship in the right circumstances.
