Speaking to the media ahead of a game against OKC, Suns coach Monty Williams couldn’t help but get emotional as he spoke of his late wife, Ingrid, who passed away in a car crash while he was coaching the Thunder.

In honor of their former coach, the Thunder decided to reserve a special seat for her in the arena where she used to sit.

“Years ago, my family had a really, really tough life change here. We lost my wife here in this city, and this city, and in particular this organization, wrapped their arms around me and my family and continues to do so. Today would have been my wife’s birthday and they chose to honor my wife today by not allowing anybody to sit in her seat. When I found out this morning, it really messed me up because it really speaks to how blessed I am to do what I do and work for the people that I work for… for them to do that today speaks to the organization, and through this city God has blessed me and my kids.”

I can’t begin to imagine the turmoil of losing a spouse, but it’s good that Williams was in an environment that helped and supported him through such a tough time. As he returns today, it’s likely that coach Williams will look back fondly on his experience in OKC and the people who helped him through an unimaginable burden.

Looking ahead, Williams is all-in with the Suns as he hopes to lead them to the pinnacle of playoff success.

Can The Suns Win The NBA Title?

As the NBA’s coach of the year, Monty Williams is the perfect coach for Phoenix and has done an admirable job leading the team since he took over in 2019.

This season, after acquiring Kevin Durant, Phoenix is once again among the favorites to win it all. And while there are plenty of doubters, nobody can the Suns as a contender any longer.

“The team that most recently did it has still got their top players in tow: Devin Booker, Chris Paul, and Deandre Ayton,” said Jalen Rose. “And they just added the easy money sniper [Kevin Durant].”

It’s championship or bust for the Suns this season, but whether or not they get it done this year, they will be a force to worry about as long as KD, Devin Booker, and Monty Williams are leading the charge.
