The Damian Lillard trade rumors are going to swirl for the entirety of July, as it doesn’t look like he will be getting traded any time soon. The player is waiting to be sent to the Miami Heat, though the Blazers seem reluctant to accept their package.

Jimmy Butler is continuously teasing Lillard’s impending arrival on the squad. During a practice in China, Butler hit a wide-open three and celebrated by hitting two of Dame’s iconic celebrations. The first was the wave goodbye Lillard used after eliminating the OKC Thunder in 2019, and the second was Dame’s iconic ‘Dame Time’ celebration.

These two want to be teammates really badly, with the Lillard to Heat rumors stemming from before the trade request actually went in. Dame has made it clear he only wants to play for the Heat in a bid to get other teams to not offer any serious packages for his services. He averaged 32.2 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 7.3 assists last season, which explains why the struggling Heat offense wants to add him.

Would The Heat With Lillard Be Favorites?

The Miami Heat made an unexpected run to the NBA Finals with a supporting cast most people called weak. Their star duo of Bam Adebayo and Butler weren’t expected to lead the team as far as they did, but both players showed up and made the Finals. Adding Lillard to this duo and making it a trio would make the Heat much happier about all the rotational depth they lost this season.

The Nuggets will widely be expected to remain the favorites for next year’s title, but the Heat could vault themselves ahead of the Celtics and Bucks in terms of contention. Many analysts believe Lillard in Miami is bound to fail, so we’ll have to wait and see if this trade even gets completed before the start of training camp in the fall.
