Scoot Henderson saw his NBA dreams come true when he was selected with the No. 3 overall pick of the 2023 Draft by the Portland Trail Blazers. Whether he’ll play alongside Damian Lillard is unconfirmed, but he’ll be rocking out in Portland either way.

On the Draft Night red carpet, Henderson was asked if he can FaceTime the most famous person on his phone. Though the answer was Stephen Curry, Henderson chose to call Caleb McLaughlin from Stranger Things instead, saying he was scared of calling Curry like that.

Scoot Henderson: “Can I FaceTime Steph Curry? I guess… *picks up phone*  I’mma call Caleb McLaughlin.

Interviewer: Are you scared of Steph?

Scoot Henderson: “Yeah, yeah, I don’t want that.”

Curry mentored Scoot before the Draft, with the pair having a strong connection with each other. The Warriors guard is a busy man and wouldn’t appreciate the rookie he’s mentoring calling him on FaceTime while in an interview out of the blue. He made a smart decision and will hope to exact Portland’s revenge against Curry’s Warriors for the 2019 playoff run.

Will Scoot Play Alongside Damian Lillard?

Henderson has repeatedly advocated for Lillard to stay, thinking the pair could be fantastic as teammates. Naturally, Scoot will want to compete from day one, even if it’s at the expense of losing touches to Lillard. The Blazers can still make win-now moves by moving players like Anfernee Simons instead of being forced to pick between Scoot or Dame.

The decision ultimately will rest with Lillard, as the Blazers are unlikely to keep him from requesting a trade if he thinks he wants to move on. That’ll give Henderson more opportunity as the No. 1 option in Portland, but likely sets back his winning expectations for a few seasons as the Blazers rebuild.
