The New Orleans Pelicans have watched their supposed franchise cornerstone struggle to be healthy enough to play games since he was drafted in 2019. Zion Williamson‘s questionable availability has caused the franchise to even consider trades for him.

Williamson’s injury proneness is made worse by his inability to keep his weight in check. He openly admitted to struggling to diet over the last few years of his career while talking to Gilbert Arenas.

“Since this you, I will be real. There were times when I wasn’t, that sh*t’s hard man. I’m 20-22, have a lot of money, feel like all the money in the world, man. It is hard. I am at that point now because of certain things and the wisdom around me. I don’t wanna say older, but the people around me with wisdom put me on game to certain things and go from there.”

Williamson has played less than 40% of total games since he was drafted in 2019, missing the entirety of the 2021-22 season and playing just 29 games last year. He averaged 26.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 4.6 assists in that time, being named an All-Star for his sensational play.

After a very public off-court controversy with pornstar Moriah Mills, Williamson needs to lock in on his game and salvage his deteriorating reputation next season.

Will Zion Williamson Rebound Next Season?

The Pelicans were among the best teams in the NBA when Zion was healthy last season. The team fell apart after his injury, falling out of the playoffs when the dust settled. Williamson refused to play towards the end of the season to protect his health, something that reportedly soured relationships behind the scenes. David Griffin has insisted that he and Zion still have a strong relationship.

The ability that Zion has cannot be questioned. His passion for the game, on the other hand, is another topic. All eyes will be in New Orleans to see how Zion gets on, as the Pels have a talented roster around him that could make a deep playoff push if Williamson is healthy enough to play when summertime comes around.
