The Lakers have been feeling good recently after the team took a big step toward contention with a deadline trade to send Russell Westbrook away.

The new starting PG for the Lakers is D’Angelo Russell, who’s already become a fan favorite. Austin Reaves was praising D’Lo and one phrase used by him made fans think Reaves was taking shots at Westbrook.

A fan said, “Is this a shot at Russ? It feels like a shot at Russ.”

A Lakers fan saw the diss evidently, “Bro just dissed Russ.”

Another fan said fans were reading into the quote, “I love how everyone is saying this is a shot at Russ when all Reaves did was describe the bare minimum for a competent basketball player.”

Another fan joked about Russ being called a vampire when he left the Lakers, “Plays the game the right way.”

The Westbrook disses from fans continued coming, “It makes a world of difference when your PG isn’t a masonry worker smh.”

One fan defended Westbrook, “I feel like AR didn’t intend to shoot at Russ, but this just goes to show that Russ simply isn’t fit to the LA org. He kills the momentum on a nightly basis with his high-risk, high-reward plays. There are some nights they benefitted from it, but the majority, they lost bc of it.”

Fans are definitely reading into what Reaves said, but there have been plenty of subtle digs from the Lakers toward Russ. LeBron incessantly tweeting about how he loves the new team along with Darvin Ham and Anthony Davis saying the group is having fun while winning shows that Westbrook leaving has boosted the morale of the locker room immensely.

Lakers Falling Short At A Crucial Time

The Lakers needed to win a lot of games when they made the trade to send Russ away to ensure they could be in the playoffs. After a strong run of games with LeBron James our hurt, the Lakers climbed all the way up to 9th and half a game behind 7th. A loss to the Knicks tonight has hurt them and sent them plummeting to the 11th seed and out of the postseason picture again.

With the brevity of games in the season, the Lakers need to maximize every remaining game. LeBron is healing fast and could make his return next week, but the Lakers need to continue piling on the wins to be in a situation where LeBron doesn’t have to rush back and endanger his health further.
