Without superstar LeBron James in the fold due to his foot injury, Anthony Davis has been the leader for the Los Angeles Lakers. There is no doubt that the team has relied on him to dominate on both ends of the floor, and for the most part, it has worked.

The Los Angeles Lakers were recently criticized for not playing Anthony Davis in their recent back-to-back, as the Houston Rockets managed to get a win for their team. Recently, it was revealed by NBA insider Chris Haynes that the Lakers will play Anthony Davis during their final back-to-back, noting that Davis had to pick which back-to-back he played in.

“AD had to pick which back-to-back to play in”, said Chris Haynes. “The back-to-back last week… then there’s the back-to-back… April 4th in Utah and April 5th Clippers. What I was told… AD will play in that back-to-back.” (09:11)

Undoubtedly, this is a good decision by the Los Angeles Lakers. They need every single win they can get, and they no longer have the luxury of resting Anthony Davis in important games.

Anthony Davis has averaged 25.8 PPG, 12.5 RPG, and 2.1 BPG for the Los Angeles Lakers this season. He only managed to put up 15 points against the Orlando Magic recently, and the Lakers will need better production from him down the stretch if they are to make the playoffs.

Anthony Davis Wants To Be Out There Playing

Previously, Anthony Davis claimed that it is “tough” for him to have to sit out back-to-backs, noting that he wants to “go out and play”. However, he noted that he does still have an “active injury”, and this sort of rest is something that the medical staff and the Lakers have “discussed”.

“It’s tough, especially in the position we’re in,” Davis said. “Obviously, I want to go out and play. But before I even came back, this was something the doctors and the organization discussed – that they thought it would be best for me not to play back-to-backs because of the foot. Even though I’m not feeling pain or anything, it’s still an active injury, with the stress reaction and everything. We’re doing all the right things to make sure that I’m ready to go. You want to go out and play but at the end of the day with an injury like that, you don’t want it to go to the other side.”

There is no doubt that Anthony Davis is willing to do whatever it takes to win basketball games for the Los Angeles Lakers, but it is clear that it is better to be safe than sorry with his injury. Hopefully, we see him have a good end to the season, and we’ll see what happens in the future.
