Max Strus is ending his tenure with the Miami Heat and taking his talents to another top Eastern Conference team. The Cleveland Cavaliers have been very active in the first hours of free agency, and now landed another good player to bolster their ranks.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, the 27-year-old swingman is headed to Cleveland after agreeing to a sign-and-trade with the team.

“Free agent Max Strus has agreed on a four-year, $63M sign-and-trade with the Cleveland Cavaliers, agent Mark Bartelstein of @PrioritySports tells ESPN. In three-team deal, Heat get a second-round pick and Spurs acquire Cedi Osman, Lamar Stevens and a second-rounder.”

Strus was a big piece for the Miami Heat during the 2022-23 NBA season. He took his game to the next level in the playoffs, helping his squad beat several rivals on the way to the NBA Finals.

Strus even took revenge on the Boston Celtics for cutting him a couple of years ago following the Heat’s win over the C’s in the Eastern Conference Finals.

Now, he’ll try to help the Cavaliers make a deep playoff run next season. The Cavs already secured the services of Caris LeVert and landed George Niang from the Philadelphia 76ers.

Adding Strus boosts their chances to compete next season and improve what they did this year when they got eliminated in the first round of the playoffs at the hands of the New York Knicks.

In 80 games with the Heat last season, Strus averaged 11.5 points, 3.2 rebounds and 2.1 assists.

Miami Heat Are Losing Key Pieces This Free Agency

On the other end, the Miami Heat are seeing how some of their best players are leaving the franchise. While they kept Kevin Love on a two-year deal, the Floridian also lost Gabe Vincent to the Los Angeles Lakers

Vincent was another key player in their 2023 run, and losing him will be hurtful. Jimmy Butler had already said goodbye to Strus on social media and now is official that the player is leaving the 2023 Eastern Conference champions.
