The Los Angeles Lakers are scouring the entire NBA to find the right trades to improve their current cast of talent and become a contending team in the NBA again. The Lakers have shown signs of life with their superstar duo of LeBron James and Anthony Davis, but they need a lot more from the players around them.
The Lakers added Patrick Beverley for Stanley Johnson and Talen Horton-Tucker in the summer, but Beverley has been one of the worst rotations players for the Lakers. His defensive impact has been minimal and his shooting splits have been atrocious this season.
His $15 million contract is prime trade bait, with the Lakers looking to actively move him for an upgrade. If that happens, Beverley is looking to return to the team he spent last season on, according to Jake Fischer.
“Should Beverley ultimately get moved to a rebuilding situation like the [Detroit] Pistons, the grizzled guard has a desire to return to Minnesota, sources said, should he reach free agency via buyout,” (h/t Yahoo Sports)
Beverley fits the role of a bench leader better on the Wolves because they won’t rely on him to give them actual consistent production on the court. Given the success they had last year, it may be worth it for Beverley to link back up with Minny.
Who Can The Lakers Acquire For Beverley?
The Lakers have been trying their best to convince the Detroit Pistons to send them Bojan Bogdanovic, but it has not worked out so far. The Lakers still have potential trade partners in New York, Charlotte, and San Antonio, but Bogdanovic is easily the single-best returning player the team can hope to get.
Hopefully, none of these teams want to actually keep Beverley to close the season out. This allows him to have an open road to rejoining the Wolves and being in a solution he can actually contribute to in the locker room.
