Former NBA champion Richard Jefferson labeled Stephen Curry while also adding for good measure that the Golden State Warriors mainstay was not a point guard.

Speaking on The Old Man And The Three Podcast, “I think Steph is a shooting guard,” Jefferson said. “I don’t think he’s a point guard, and that’s not to knock him. You can be in that position, I think Steph…his best position is off the ball because of the space here creates with that moment.”

“Now, one the ball, he creates one of the best handles, he’s got all of this stuff, and he can do it on the ball also. But I think if you look at the greatest shooter ever, all the threes, and the amount that he plays off the ball, he’s a combo guard, but I would consider Steph more of a shooting guard.”

It’s worth noting that the sharpshooter had a rather crisp answer to that question himself. Curry opined that the position didn’t necessarily matter, but what did was if the player could play the game.

Curry isn’t a traditional point guard by any means. But he has revolutionized the NBA and changed the game. Whether or not he fits the bill of a point guard, there is no denying that he is one of the best-ever shooters in the history of the league.

LeBron James Knew Stephen Curry Would Be Special

It wasn’t just Jefferson who had flowers for the Warriors superstar. Los Angeles Lakers icon and fellow Akron boy LeBron James earlier said that Curry was something special.

In a recent Instagram story, James stated that he always knew that Curry was a cut above the rest. They may not have played for the same team (not accounting for the All-Star appearances), but there is no doubt that both players have mutual respect for each other.

On the season front, Curry is averaging 29.4 PPG, 6.2 RPG, and 6.3 APG, but the Warriors are still far from booking a playoff berth.

With two games remaining, the team will look to notch up wins against Sacramento Kings and the Portland Trail Blazers and stake their claim for the sixth seed. One loss in either of the two games would mean risk entering the play-in, and Curry will be keen to get his sights on point.
