Stephen Curry took over in Game 7 against the Sacramento Kings to ensure the Warriors don’t fall victim to a first-round upset. He knew what was at stake and made sure his teammates knew as well with a motivational speech before the game.
Curry had his teammates gushing over whatever he said to them prior to the Game 7 win. Andrew Wiggins said that he got chills from listening to the speech, while Jordan Poole called him a killer and compared his approach to the famed ‘Mamba Mentality’ espoused by Kobe Bryant.
“At this point, he’s reminding people for no reason. He’s got the same edge as any of the other greats. Mamba Mentality, all of that sh*t, Steph got that sh*t. That’s what makes him so special. Maybe his approach is a bit different than the other guys, but we know he’s a killer. Everybody in the world knows he’s a killer.”
Gary Payton II also commented on how Curry usually leads by example but this time motivated his teammates with words, which had a profound impact because he usually doesn’t speak to them.
“He is that guy. So when he speaks, everybody better listen. Because 30 is usually quiet and lets his game speak for itself. But he had to say what he had to say because he knew what type of vibe it was … and I don’t think he wanted to give this one up. So he led and we followed.”

What Exactly Did Curry Say?
Draymond Green was locked into Curry’s speech as well, reliving some of what he said to The Athletic.
“You’re in this space where you gon’ fold or you gon’ rise up. Once he did that, you have no choice but to rise up. He f***ing got everybody locked in. ‘If you’re getting on this bus, you’re making a commitment to this team. No matter if you play zero minutes or 40 minutes. You’re making a commitment to do whatever it takes. Prepare your mind and body for this opportunity we have. We got embarrassed the other night and we never f—ing going out like that… “Enough said champ!” Green yelled in response to Curry. “Nobody got nothing! That’s it. What else can be said?”
The Warriors are heading into a highly-anticipated second-round series against the Los Angeles Lakers, which rekindles the iconic Finals rivalry between the Warriors and LeBron James. Curry is excited about the matchup and is bound to get his teammates riled up to take down James and the Lakers in their first matchup in the Western playoffs.
The first game will take place on Tuesday. Curry is entering the series hot, coming off this 50-point game and averaging 33.7 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 4.9 assists throughout the first round. LeBron James isn’t the same offensive monster we know him to be, with his averages of 22.2 points, 11.2 rebounds, and 5.2 assists looking unlike what he usually does. Anthony Davis will play a huge role in this series, as he’s leading the playoffs in blocks and averaged 20.8 points, 13.7 rebounds, and 4.3 blocks in the first round.
