In honor of the NBA’s notorious Christmas Day schedule, the defending champs in Golden State are being matched up against their budding rivals in Memphis: the Grizzlies.

After a series of back and forths between both sides, the teams are slated for a rematch of their 2022 playoff series, and Ja Morant is excited about it. After the news broke on Twitter, he responded with excitement.

A while later, Draymond Green followed it up with a tweet of his own, taking the opportunity to invite Morant over to his house for Christmas dinner.

True, these two teams (and these two players specifically) are engaged in a mini rivalry of sorts. As two teams with edgy and gritty personalities, their battles are always intense and must-see tv.

But Dray clearly holds a lot of respect for Morant, even going so far as to peg him as the young player who most reminds him of himself.

“I’m going to have to go with, in a much different way, Ja Morant,” he said. “I ain’t bowing down to none of y’all. I don’t care what you’ve accomplished before I got here. That has absolutely nothing to do with me. I believe in myself and my abilities. I’m going to show you that. I’m going to lead. I’m going to talk to you and let you know about it while I’m doing it. I’m gonna carry others with me, and most importantly, I’m gon’ do it my way. And all of those things that I just named, I see Ja Morant do.”

In a way, the Grizzlies are just a young version of the Warriors. As a well-run franchise with a fierce and powerful superstar leading them, Memphis is going to be a problem for the next few years to come.

Christmas Day should just be another opportunity to show the world who they really are — and what they can do against the best of the best.
