The premier tennis competition on clay just took place and Novak Djokovic walked away as champion of The Roland Garros 2023 French Open, his third triumph in the competition.

Djokovic was heavily praised by European players like Luka Doncic, but the tennis star was looking at one of the greatest American athletes ever to motivate himself. He revealed after his French Open win that he imbibed Kobe Bryant‘s Mamba Mentality before sealing his 23rd Grand Slam win.

“Mamba Mentality, Kobe Bryant. You know it’s going to happen before it actually happens. I really believe in that power, mental power, projecting your thoughts and creating your future. Easy to talk now but I was really believing to my core that I can achieve these limits, actually, there’s no limits. I keep growing and I am looking forward to the next Grand Slam already.”

Kobe Bryant inspired millions through his incredible play on the court. There are athletes that use Kobe’s mantra to push themselves forward, and then there are regular folks like you and I that lean on his mentality to keep improving, even if we aren’t pushing to win an NBA Championship.

Mamba Mentality Is Real

Mamba Mentality might have been a motivational tool for Kobe alone, or perhaps a fantastic marketing move to showcase his incredible dedication to his craft. Either way, the result it created was giving people around the world power to believe they can climb the ladder of success by replicating Kobe’s drive to be the best. The Lakers’ legend believed in what he was preaching and showed all his peers that he lived by it.

Players like Klay Thompson channeled their inner Mamba to get back from debilitating career injuries. Devin Booker has tried to emulate Kobe on the court, but even he has admitted that he can use the mentality to propel him forward, but he can never be who Kobe was

Everyone claims to have Mamba Mentality, but only a few live by it. Those that do end up becoming greats in their sport, as Booker and Klay did in basketball and Djokovic is doing in tennis.
